Jack Warner conveniently dodges any chance of being proven corrupt... I mean, resigns.

Fifa vice-president Jack Warner has resigned, world football's governing body has confirmed.

"As a consequence of Mr Warner's resignation, all ethics committee procedures against him have been closed and the presumption of innocence is maintained," said a Fifa statement.

Warner was suspended pending an investigation into bribery allegations.

He and fellow Fifa member Mohamed Bin Hammam are alleged to have paid bribes of £600,000 to Caribbean associations.

It had been alleged by Chuck Blazer - the general secretary of the Concacaf federation of which Warner had been president - that violations of Fifa's code of ethics occurred during a meeting organised by Bin Hammam and Warner in May.

Blazer's allegations against the 68-year-old - who had been the longest-serving member of Fifa's executive committee - were preceded by claims made in parliament by the former head of England's failed 2018 World Cup bid, Lord Triesman, about irregularities in the bidding process for the 2018 World Cup.

Triesman, who was also former chairman of the Football Association (FA), accused Warner and three other Fifa Executive Committee members of improper conduct during England's 2018 World Cup bid.

A Fifa statement continued: "Fifa regrets the turn of events that have led to Mr Warner's decision.

"His resignation has been accepted by world football's governing body, and his contribution to international football and to Caribbean football in particular and the Concacaf confederation are appreciated and acknowledged.

Nothing to see here folks, move along. FIFA has a business to run here, stop getting our way. These pockets don't just line themselves, you know.

Where did I say they shouldn't make money?

It's how they make their money, and what they do with it that I take issue with.

And no, this has nothing to do with the fact England didn't get the World Cup bid, so I really wish people wouldn't bring that back up every time we dare to discuss FIFA being dodgier than a nine pound note.

I was listening to Tim Vickery on the World Football Phone in t'other night and he was explaining that in his region (and others) that the opinion over there is just England being bitter over not getting the World Cup and leading the charge against FIFA.

Don't get me wrong, FIFA has it's flaws and problems. It's just the timing of the crusade against FIFA happened to come after the failed World Cup Bid and not all those years ago, England haven't "liked" FIFA since they lost charge.

Oh well, stuff it, lets let them get away with murder, because we wouldn't want to be seen as bitter would we.

Not saying that at all.

Saying that if FIFA were this bad, the FA and others should have dealt with it before. The timing of this make the FA look bitter, they didn't seem to get much support from the other countries involved in FIFA either recently.

I'm not excusing the tactics FIFA use, merely passing comment :)
Where in this thread has anyone mentioned the FA until you, Tummy?

This thread has nothing to do with them. It's about a blatantly corrupt FIFA politician resigning before any charges can be really brought against him.

Are we basically never allowed to mention corruption in FIFA in this forum without someone invoking the spirit of the FA and our failed WC bid now?
