I bought this in the steam sale and thought I'd give it a go. Enjoying it a lot, but can anyone explain (better then in game!) the Harmonic Combos?

I cannot for the life of me get the Combo timer to appear, regardless of what stance I'm using (a support stance and the correct move of course!), getting irritating now!

Can't remember now, but if you haven't spotted it, there's a pdf manual in the Jade Empire Steam folder somewhere. Don't know if that explains it any better for you than it does ingame.
 
Aye Wes I've read that, I'm just not getting the combo timer to come up, regardless of what combo opener I use. Very irritating!
 
can't remember to well as it was a long time ago I played. However they do not tend to appear early on in the game, but they will later fear not.
 
I don't remember there being a timer anywhere. It helps to focus, but as far as I recall you just need to hit em with the setup strike, which is normally a status-inducing attack, then switch styles and hit em with a power strike. If done right, they'll explode.
 
IIRC, to start a harmonic combo, you need to use a strong (right click?) or maybe area of effect (both buttons?) attack in the combo starter style (for example, the style which slows opponents down). Then the 'timer' should appear red surrounding the opponent on the ground. Switch through to your damaging style (e.g. legendary strike) and i think perform a strong attack to complete it.
