Hi all,

Behold, the Jag XJ6, modern ish shape one. The one that Dog the bounty hunter drives :D.

Im possibly moving to Holland soon, and am wont have a company car over there. I've been looking at Audis, modeos etc but always wanted one of these. So, running costs in terms of fuel will be more, obviously. But parts wise, are they vastly more expensive than your medium/large family waggon?

Thanks,

J

I owned a 1991 3.2 XJ6. (I know it's older but is mechanically similar) When uni is over, i'll be back in a Jag - probably a 1996 4.0 initially.

By 1993, Ford had really helped Jag improve the reliability of their cars. The 1994-1997 X300 Shape was very reliable.

On a run, 28mpg is possible at a steady 75, though expect an average of 23 if your driving is half town.

As for parts, they are still more expensive than a ford/vauxhall but not prohibitively so.

The extra cost is worth it for these amazing cars... space, grace and pace :)

O.k hope this helps.
I currently own a 98 XJR8
Jaguar charge £300 for a service, I would imagine an XJ6 will be the same.

My previous 96-reg XJ6 did 18 MPG round town, Average of 23 and 28 on a motorway run.

If you want like to know anything else, please ask

They are one the best cars to drive you'll find out there, especially for the money.

Seems like a good car to go for in this case. If i can pick up a nice low mileage one over in Holland that is :).

I think the company will be paying 30 cents per miles, thats about 20p per mile. I need to work out if this might be overkill for that kind of stuff lol!

cabin space is pretty poor, i drove a 96 model and the interior looked very very dated :(

XJ8's look much nicer to me, was going to test drive one but with high miles the drivers seats always look worn

Oh, so whats the difference betweek the 8 and the 6 please?

Jon :)

xj6's went upto 97 and had a straight 6 engine. Lower indicators are square. Dodgy 80's interior

post 97 they were all v8's (hence xj8), Lower indicators are rounded. Much much nicer interior.

Years could be out and i am sure it will give someone great pleasure to correct.

Do a little more research into them before you go a buy one, specs etc, perhaps test drive a couple, the XJ8 does have a more modern feel it to even if the outside changes are quite minimal (front and rear bumpers), it also has a 5 speed auto with sports mode and 290BHP instead of 245BHP :p..... the XJ6 doesnt seem to want to "kick down" oftern enough, by that I mean if you put your foot down at 3000rpm or more it will continue in the same gear as it's already in.....not good if you want a quick overtake.
