Jaguar XK150

Saying that, they don't even sell a Supercharged version yet do they? Unless you've driven the XKR that isn't on sale yet.
(You work for Jag/Ford I take it?)

That's exactly what I thought. Standard XK is non-supercharged and it's the forthcoming XK-R that has the super chargers. Given I posted here a month or so ago having seen an XK-R coming back from winter testing in Switzerland, I doubt that one in the picture is an XK-R (The final one is bound to have louvres in the bonnet or wings).

Is it me or are the first and last pictures identical :p

Anyway, nice looking motor, front end looks like an Aston Martin with FTO lights.

Some superchargers do suffer from noticable lag sometimes (it depends on the engine, charger and some other variables), as it is the point when the rotors are spun fast enough to actually start boosting - so if you accellerate hard there is a gradual increase then all hell breaks loose. It's primarily noticed with centrifugal belt driven superchargers, which are effectively turbos driven by belts.

Old Alfa touring cars suffered from coming on boost in the corners, which always spun them out, so they changed from belt drive chargers to hydraulically driven, to keep the rotors at a constant speed.

Oh yea, very nice car btw! I was flanked by two of these a couple of months back driving near the plant in Coventry, we were all looking eachother over! :D

Do superchargers 'kick in' I thought they spooled up with the engine, hence delivering much smother power then a turbo?

They do spool up with the engine, although the supercharger revs higher in conjunction with the amount of throttle exerted iirc. ie ours doesn't spin at 26,000rpm while travelling at 30mph:D

I was expecting an old XK150 like my dad used to have :(

(that isn't his but it is very similar)

Saw one in the jaguar plot on the way home from work on thursday, looks pretty impressive from the outside, not convinced no the grill though.

No...a turbocharger revs higher with more throttle, a superchargers rotaional speed is proportional to engine speed, unless yours has some kind of variable ratio transmission?

yeah thats what i thought, superchargers have no lag cos they dont need pressure to spool up like a turbo
