Jailbreak / Tethering

Hey people. Currently writing this on a cracked iphone screen so please dont shoot me for not searching.

Apparently someone has run my 'box' over where ever it is so my home internet is fubar, cant get any webpages to load but i can login to steam and chat heh but that keeps dropping.

Could someone kindly help me out, i want to connect my pc to my iphone and use the iphones 3g internet preferbly over the usb connection though i do have a laptop i can bluetooth to.

Im guessing to set my phone up for tethering / wifi hotspot id have to jailbreak my phone?

Also, what jailbreak software is the recommended/favourite? Im assuming there are different types

what firmware have you got?

the current jailbreak only supports ios 4.3.5

4.3.5 is what itunes tells me i have

There is a jailbreak for iOS5, it is tethered though for now.

I found a website that says what is and isnt possible but im not sure what tehtered and untethered means in jailbreaking

There is another website i found that talks about goinf back a firmware update but requires doing into dtu mode or something and tricking itunes into going to another server which tbh sounds like too much hassle and im not keen on maybe bricking my phone heh

Untethered means once Jailbroken you don't have to connect your iPhone to your PC if you reboot it.
Tethered obviously means you need to go through the jailbreaking steps again.

I have a tethered 4.5 break at the moment but I never reboot my iPhone so it's not an issue. Still, I'm going to wait for the untethered iOS5 one.

Some peoples definition of rebooting is different to others.. I'm thinking if you turn your phone on and off.. youd have to connect it to the PC again, same as if the battery dies?
