Worried about this. Had heard recently in the press there had been big differences between Amazon and Broccoli about the future of the series. Looks like they’ve handed creative control over to Amazon.

They will milk it for every penny they can no doubt with various spin offs. Same thing that happened to every other franchise. Diluting it.

It sounds like Amazon will give it new life though. The fact they've not even announced a new bond story, or new bond character says to me that Broccoli and Wilson were dragging their feet with the next installment.

From what I read it seemed like they had creative differences with Amazon about where to take the franchise.

It's kind of fitting they killed bond off in the last film.

The writers need to remember bond is a male fantasy figure.

Doesn't matter his ethnicity but I can see it being a problem for modern writers with respect to bond girls etc even though thats what the (male) audience wants.

If they kinda of understand that even then I bet they crank them out like fast & furious or transformers and the quality will suffer.

Incoming announcement of new Bond actor? Next Bond film 2026??? Maybe....

As much as I'd love that, I think that's wishful thinking. It really depends whether they already have a bond story/script to use - if they don't then that will take some time to produce.

Yeah I guess we don't know which side they were
on. I really thought the last film was abysmal, probably one of the worst in the entire franchise because of killing off the main character was just completely unnecessary. We've never had bond killed off before even when they've changed actors, or the film goes through a change in style.

Whether that was a direction they were trying to take and Amazon were against it, or vice versa. But as @CaneyJ points out, 007 has to be a male because that's what the entire franchise was based on. If all of a sudden we end up with a female 007 then it's a completely different franchise and frankly I think would kill it off.

For a brand new character I would agree, but when a character's physical appearance has already been set down, and especially established for a long time (LotR, Bond, Harry Potter, etc), then changing such details is wrong.
One of the biggest complaints about The Witcher was that Triss Merigold did not have her signature red hair, which was so widely complained about that they had to make the change and invent in-story and IRL excuses for their previous misportrayal.

Did having red hair have any affect on one of the books plots?

Bad writing is bad writing.

Craig was deemed controversial just because he was blonde but I think he played a decent bond with the right script.

Compared to George Lazenby anyway. Personally, Dalton was my fave.

How many more british institutions are there left to sell off?

Bond as a character just doesn't work in this day and age - he's far too offensive for the average person of fragility to stomach.
Craig did a good job of killing his traits that made him Bond over the last few year and id sort of hoped the franchise was dead.

But no. The geriatric cow must be milked some more!

I mean, Amazon own it. I heard Wilson and Broccoli were blocking ideas. This announcement sounds like a polite way of saying Amazon have told them to like it or lump it. It's a shame they couldn't agree a way forward though.

Personally, I have no interest in the franchise after No Time To Die.

I suspect we'll have Bond and then Amazon Bond, similar to Star Wars.

Seen the news and though the same as the OP, real risk this will just be another franchise trashed.
