Did anyone see this tonight? It sickened and upset me. The evil and brutality in those two boys. James was crying for his mother while they was killing him ffs. How could their warped minds allow them to do this? I don’t even have children and it sickens me. I dread to think what it does to those who have young children.

And all they got was 8 years in a cushy children’s detention centre and now Thompson is out on the streets living a normal life while Venables is back in jail for getting his kicks out of more innocent children being hurt!

Where is the justice in this world?

Well, Venables is back in jail. That sounds like justice to me.
How long for? And what about Thompson?

Venables had to be released to commit these further crimes. They should have spent many more years in jail than they did. Never even made it to an adult prison.

Yes, and I’m saying that’s wrong. The system is failing if he’s released and reoffends. There is a failure or multiple failures among the people responsible for rehabilitating him, deciding whether to release him, and monitoring him once he has been released.

None of which undermines the wider notion of rehabilitation.
You keep saying he’s not rehabilitated due to failures. Do you not think then that some people are so badly damaged that they are beyond rehabilitation?

You mean like rehabilitating them to be productive members of society? That would allow us some benefit from their existence.
You and your rehabilitation. Have you considered that the rehab given to the boys was adequate. After all, Thompson hasn’t reoffended but Venabkes has. Maybe Venables is actually so badly damaged that he’s beyond all rehabilitation.

thankfully we have social services to crack down on stuff like this.

I know they mean well, but social services really aren’t that impressive. How many children have they failed to protect from abuse who have ended up beaten or dead. Look at Baby P’s case. Dozens of visits made and the poor little tyke still ended up dead. I really don’t think you can trust social services to prevent incidences like this.

How many people have they saved?

It's a trick question, I know that you have no idea.
Exactly, do we know for sure how many people they’ve failed too?

No we don’t. That’s why proclaiming them as the reason why these kind of people don’t commit heinous acts is wide of the mark.
