Realise I'm a jammy bar steward after reading how many experienced OC-ers have trouble getting beyond 3.4mhz sometimes....

I've just started to dip my toe in the water with oc-ing and just upped the fsb gradually until I got orthos to run stable at 3.6mhz (450x8) - I've got vcore 1 at 1.30 and vcore 2 at 1.85, orthos ran for 9hrs until I ended it satisfied it was stable enough.

See here..... http://img152.imageshack.us/my.php?image=369hrsbr4.jpg

I'm sure I could get it higher with a few tweaks as just by upping the fsb I got it to boot ok into windows at 3.76mhz (470x8) but it bombed out in orthos after a few secs.

My set up is
E6750
Gigabyte P35C DS3R
2gigs of Crucial Ballistix
Arctic Freezer 7 Pro

One thing - I remember reading somewhere that the E6*50 range of cpu's aren't getting their temps reported correctly....is that still true? As you can see from the screencap, the temp on TAT was about 40*C.....what would that REALLY be then?

Oh....and also, why aren't I allowed to post attachments on here?

Thx

have you compared your temp readings from TAT to coretemp? and don't you mean GHz, not MHz (because it will be a serious underclock if your CPU was at 3.x MHz) and is the 40 idle temp or when its under load?

At idle, TAT is reporting temps as CPU 0 = 27*C CPU 1 = 24*C
Coretemp = Core#0 = 24*C Core#1 = 24*C (Speedfan = the same)

and don't you mean GHz, not MHz (because it will be a serious underclock if your CPU was at 3.x MHz)
:):) .....yeah, 3.6Ghz ;)

and is the 40 idle temp or when its under load?
That's under load.....

So which voltage is the cpu voltage, as it only uses the one.

I take it the 1.85v is you memory voltage?

This is where I'm a bit confused with the bios on the DS3R, not really sure which does what......though it's all running along just fine at the moment @3.6Ghz! It's just as I said, I'm sure it would go higher if I adjusted the right settings.....

Thx

Hi again

A prob's just revealed itself.

I went to burn a DVD and neither of my 2 burners is showing up in the Recorders drop down box of Nero (just the virtual drive of Nero Imagemount)

Must be something to do with the increased bus speed.

Anyone else had this problem before?

Cheers :)

generally speaking for some functions to work once a cpu is overclocked you are kind of pushed into increasing vcore as these problems can occur. i had a similar where my wireless wouldn't work yet my cpu would be stable so i increased vcore and voila!

Mate sure the PCI-E Bus is locked at 101max.... Otherwise you get this errors.

Also 1.85 won't be the RAM, as the ram will need 2V+ generally

Its prob the VCore of the FSB.

Nice oc Moggsy.

Isn't the default vcore of the 6750 1.35v (I think??). If so, what settings for the vcore have you got in the bios etc? I would love to know as I have the same CPU and mobo as yourself but I am having trouble getting stable past 3ghz (not sure of voltages etc)
