You will be looking at 6 months for non-reference versions i'm guessing and maybe even longer and for something like a DirectCu version they always seem to take ages to come out and probably will be even longer wait.

I have decided the same these days to wait for the non-reference versions from now and tired of the blower type cooling on reference cards.
 
There is no reason to reduce the prices of the 6970/6950's because the parts that will replace them will not be available till Feb/March maybe even a bit later. So they will be filling that spot till then and by then stocks of these cards will be so low that it will then be wise for AMD to release basically the die shrunk versions and call them 7870/7850's and again price them slightly higher then the 6970/6950's that are still available in stock.
