News on Vieri and his possible destinations:

Milan 'release' unhappy Vieri
Milan transfer chief Adriano Galliani admits that Christian Vieri has requested a move to play first team football, which could take him to Spain or England.

“Vieri is very happy at Milan, but in a World Cup year he would like to play more regularly,” explained the Vice-President.

“He is torn and I understand his situation. In any case, this is an issue that will be decided over the next two to three days and will not drag on beyond that.”

The Italian international has barely made a mark since joining the Rossoneri in a shock free transfer from rivals Inter in the summer.

Locked out by the form of Andriy Shevchenko, Alberto Gilardino and the newly recovered Pippo Inzaghi, he has been mainly relegated to the bench.

A January transfer now looks likely and an overseas option is top of his list. While a return to Atletico Madrid, where he was top scorer with 24 goals in as many games in 1997, has been suggested, the most recent reports highlight a move to Tottenham.

“He is 33 years old and this will probably be his last World Cup, so he feels that he must safeguard that experience by playing more first team football,” added Galliani. “These are all perfectly understandable considerations.”

Other Premiership options for the centre-forward include Newcastle, Birmingham and Manchester City, though The Guardian claims that White Hart Lane is the key to his loan deal.

“I will only say that if Vieri does stay, then he’ll focus all his attention on doing well with Milan. All he needs is a little patience and a brace of goals to get the critics off his back, but any eventuality will be dealt with in a climate of friendship and understanding.”

Coach Carlo Ancelotti also hinted that a departure – albeit an amicable one – was on the cards.

“Nobody here has any intention of dumping Vieri,” assured the tactician. “I would be happy if he stayed, even if I cannot give any guarantees on more first team football.”

Tottenham wait on Vieri talks
Tottenham Hotspur are waiting on Milan to make a decision about Christian Vieri's future, according to reports in Italy.

Vieri is unsettled at San Siro having joined Milan from the club's city rivals Internazionale last summer.

The experienced Italy international has yet to establish himself in the Rossoneri's plans and is fearful for his World Cup prospects.

Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti has already expressed his wish for the 32-year-old to stay at the club, but Vieri is anxious to secure some regular playing time ahead of the finals in Germany.

He is due to meet with the club's chief officer Adriano Galliani this weekend to discuss his immediate future.

Galliani will try to convince Vieri to remain at the club, but the powerful striker will hope to be given approval to leave.

Clubs in England and Spain are keeping tabs on the talks, with Spurs' interest rumoured to be the most advanced.

Reports have already claimed that Tottenham have registered their willingness to take Vieri on loan for the rest of the season, if Milan submit to the player's demands.

With Mido heading to the African Cup of Nations, and Grzegorz Rasiak yet to make an impact at White Hart Lane, Vieri would add a physical presence to the Tottenham front line.

His experience would also be useful as Spurs boss Martin Jol looks to guide the club into the UEFA Champions League.

Vieri is still a top striker, prolific. I had utmost admiration for him in his earlier years, his time at Athletico was superb and really got him noticed, that's why i think a move to Spain is more likely for him.
Lippi will not leave him out of the Italian squad, he just needs a club, he will still get in even if he stay with Milan though, Lippi is very fond of him. He will need to produce at the WC its all he will have to show for his career.

Appart from being a multi milionaire , natch.

I cant see Lippi putting him in the squad unless he starts getting some amazing form for whatever club he ends up at.
Put bluntly, if he's failing to score with the Milan squad feeding him, then he hasnt got a chance at all. He gets the chances, but he doesnt put them away.
It cant be put down to 'he's not playing enough', because Pippo plays the same amount of time, if not less than Bobo, and he still manages to put a few away, and cause the opposition problems. All Bobo seems to do is waste chances.
The only decent thing ive seen him do is set Sheva up for his 4th against Fenerbache.

He was an excellent striker, his international strike rate was, for quite a few years i belive, the best in the world. But the last season or so, he's been awful for club & country.

Pippo, Bobo?

Whats with the gay names?
Nicknames.
Same way that most of Crewe call Mark Rivers, 'Rivo', or the same way that ManU fans called Keane, 'Keano'. Or the way that the entire country bar Chelsea fans called Drogba, 'Donkey'. :p

Yeah but Keano and Robbo (Robinson) et al doesn't make them sound like teletubbies :D
Its a language thing.
Nicknames with 'o' on the end of them sound rediculus to me. And probably most of Europe. But not to you lot.
Where as over in Italy, nicknames like Bobo, Pippo & Sheva sound fine, but here, as you say, they sound a little fruity. :p

You know the worst? That i cant work out for the life of me?
Alessandro Costacurta is known as 'Billy'?

But Pippo and Bobo have always been pretty fruity, together ;) :D

Saying that i once considered getting my Inter shirt numbered with Bobo 32 :o Glad i didn't!
