January Transfer Window 20/21

I'm not sure Edwards pulled too much off to be honest. The Kabak deal looks very cheap but Schalke are broke by all accounts and needed to shift him. I guess part of the reason why the deal was left so late in the day was because they knew we were desperate for a CB and we knew they were desperate for the money. We managed to squeeze them as hard as we could but had to wait a month to get him.

The Davies deal was pretty smart though. If he does ok then you've got yourself a squad player for peanuts and if not you can shift him to a Championship side for double what you paid.

Southampton's dealing this window a bit odd really

Minamino loan in for Long loan out - hard to argue with, even if Minamino doesn't do much, Long wasn't achieving much anyway
Vokins loan out - now Bertrand is our only recognised LB
Valery loan out - now Walker-Peters is our only recognised RB
Sims loan out - didn't realise he'd come back from loan
Johnson tfr out - meh
Slattery loan out - meh

...so we now have near enough the same going forwards but hoping Minamino kicks on and does something for us and in defence we've loaned out our backup fullbacks

Maybe we're planning on making the 4-2-2-2 into a 2-2-2-2-2

Just midfield everyone off the pitch

Minamino is the sort of player Southampton would have bought 5 years ago, played for a season or two to let people notice him and then sold to Liverpool for a whopping profit.

Now we're being bypassed, not fair :p

At least he's ended up here one way or another, just this way if he suddenly turns it on and lights up the league for the next 3 months, we won't make any money on him.

Klopp's said the reason Minamino wasn't picked regularly was because of his size, especially when defending set pieces.

Guess he's hoping he has a growth spurt while on loan.
I said this was no doubt part of the reason last night. When you've got VVD + 1 at the back, plus Hendo and Fabinho in midfield then bringing Minamino in for Firmino is no issue. When you're coming up against Burnley with just Matip + Fabinho or West Ham with Phillips + Hendo, you cannot afford to leave out Firmino without bringing in somebody else that's semi competent in the air.

Few of the papers are suggesting Klopp's unhappy our board didn't sanction a 100 million move for Koulibaly in January.

Amazing defender and exactly what we need but our transfer committee has a history of preferring to sign younger players who could potentially be sold for a profit in the future, not 30 year olds for 100 million.

That seems like utter rubbish. Klopp doesn't seem like the kind of guy to spend 100 million on a 30 year old center back.
