January Transfer Window 21/22

VDB is interesting as he'll be playing under lampard. Has a lot of knowledge to pass on regarding playing that position in the prem.

What, the bench? Thats where Donny seems to spend most of his time. Not sure Lampard will be able to relate :p

I have to wonder what Newcastle are doing. They're signing decent but not spectacular players and if they stay up surely these players are realising their 'shelf life' is limited to a couple of years as they start to spend more each season? The squad for the 24/25 season won't look anything like the squad now and many of these players will be permanent bench fodder, if not sold on when they're replaced.

Fabio Carvalho in next by the looks. Having a decent season in Championship and is v highly rated. Decent window for us.
The Fulham manager said yesterday that they don't want to let him go before the end of the season and tbh, I can't see him featuring much if at all for us in the 2nd half of this seasons so maybe a deal where he's loaned back to Fulham for the end of the season is what happens.

Are they hedging bets on going down?

Not many players want a relegation scrap right now. We're taking what we can. The contracts haven't been too long from what I heard re: the older players, so the 2 year shelf life fits in with that.

The Carvalho one has come from Romano/TheSecretScout, would be interesting as he looks a proper player.
No it hasn't, they've just jumped on the back of the story. It was first reported by Sky and then the Liverpool Echo (and I believe Paul Joyce in the Times) have reported it too.

I'd be surprised if we loaned out both Lingard and VdB, unless we value someone like Shoretire and Hannibal really highly and ready for first team football that is leaving us very light.

(Also Baz do we need to lock the entire club thread? Surely move the posts into a separate thread and lock that?)

Sounds like the Carvalho deal with a loan back to Fulham is on. It sounds like a win win for everybody. His contract is up in 6 months and if he were to move abroad then Fulham would lose him for nothing and even if he moved within the UK, the compensation fee would have unlikely been more than whatever fee we're paying and they'd get the money now rather than potentially 18 months down the line. This also guarantees that we get the player rather than risking a Dortmund coming in for him and Fulham still get to keep him until the summer.

I've just watched a 4 minute YouTube clip so I'm an expert on him now and he's basically a 19 year old Coutinho.

Would be amazed if he stays for 4 years. Got stepping stone written all over it imo

Depends what the worlds richest club do, you can;t really call it that yet, effectively they could buy all your best players in the next couple of years. This is just the beginning.

Our midfield has been awful for years and he looks the real deal. Love the intensity he plays with. Doesn’t seem to have the shooting capability of Cabaye but finally we have replaced him.

We’re massive.

A footballer, at least a good footballer, still wants silverware (hence Kane wanting to move) and regardless of who Newcastle can convince to join them (especially if they end up in the championship) I dont see them banging in league titles and champion league titles. You can bet that if Guimareas does well in the english league for a season or two and then in 2024 Liverpool or City or Bayern or Real or whoever come knocking, he'll not be seeing out that contract
