Guys,
This topic is posted all over the Xbox forums, anyone on here experienced it.
I updated my 360 through Xbox live and my console made an awful screech followed with a scrambled screen.
It inevitably showed the 3 dreaded red lights.

UPS collected it today and the driver said "Oh I'll just put it with the 11 other knackered Xbox 360's on the truck".

The cheek of it is M$ expect me to pay for the repair when it is clearly obvious that it was the update's problem as it has rendered thousands of 360's useless.

Not Happy

I got my 360 on the release date over a year ago, i.e. no warranty.
It is free postage but will cost £70 ish to repair.
I am not the only one this has happened to.

Yep mine went as well, 2 weeks after the 1 years warranty was up. I think the update must have enabled some different hardware path to be followed or something as loads of people seem to have the 3 lights of death.

What annoys me more than anything 'oneilldo' is the fact that M$ have not posted anything anywhere about this problem.

I mean what is going on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thats unfortunate mate, it does seem unfair that microsofts updates screw over 360's at random, and then customers have to pay for their **** up's.

Ive never had the 3 red lights of death (touch wood), but where exactly do they appear? on front of the console?

The 3 lights of death appear on the on/off button on the front of your console.

Take them to court. There is a law that states an electrical item has to last a reasonable time and 12 months 2 weeks is not a reasonable time for a £300 piece of hardware. Its could be a European law, not sure. Someone else should know about it better, as I've only briefly read someones post about it.

The timing and number of faults since the update are too high to be conicidental. My Bet is it has enabled some new path through the hardware that was faulty on a lot of consoles. Mine was 2 weeks past the guarentee but I managed to swap it at the shop anyway. I'm going to take out the extended warranty this time as I think the HD DVD drive might do similar.

Damn too late I have already sent it back to M$.
Was thinking about buying a new one then sell the refurbished one when it comes back but hell why should I.

What do you mean by "scrambled screen"? I left my 360 on today getting a graw achievement, got back to find the loading screen for a map with white lines going across it. It froze another 4 more times doing the exact same thing in the next 2 hours. It seems fine now, ive been running graw for about 2 hours again and it hasnt frozen once! Seems borked to me although I hope not...

Need your thought's, sorry to kind of high jack this thread.

My warranty expries mid March, and the DVD drive is playing up (won't open). I phoned the shop where I brought it but they said the warranty with them is only 28 days and now I have to deal with M$, which tbh I really don't want to do but I need to get this sorted a.s.a.p.

Anyone had this, know if it is the case, or am I getting fobbed off because the shop don't want to hand over a new console?

Cheers

Loads of white lines across the screen.

If yours is doing it now the 3 red lights of death are imminent

Oh great. Ive got three games comming tomorrow and a new controller - the stupid machine couldnt have picked a worse time to die on me.

With the amount of consoles that are being sent back how are Ms even making much of a profit?! Its ridiculous

Look at the sales of goods act, in this country all responabilty is with the retailer not the manufactorer. I have take a printout of this to high street stores and its got me replacments.

These updates seem to be more akin to flashing the bios of a motherboard or graphics card, it usually goes fine but now and again can really screw you over. :(
