Anyone know where I can pick up a decent Japanese > UK power transformer and what I would need specs wise?

The japanese PS3 runs at 3.8a

You don't need one m8 the machine will run at 220v just use a 3 amp fused kettle lead I would not take a chance with a higher fuse tbh

what, seriosuley! - can anyone else back that up as I don't want to fry my new toy?

Wow not a lot of trust on the board :)

Just do a search online I would send you to a few other forums but I am not sure what OCUK rules are on linking to external forums

My Brothers Jap PS3 just uses a standard lead, no transformer or anything..

So yes, it'll be fine, only 110V Machines need a transformer, luckily Japan uses 220V/240V..

As far as I know it is the same as a PSU in a standard PC which auto senses the voltage and adjusts accordingly. Essentially it is a PC inside so it sort of stands to reason.

I'm not saying I don't trust you, I would just like a second opinion as I have been waiting for an age to get this PS3 and it would be just my luck if I fried it on the first boot up.!!!!

:(

*EDIT*

Typical, in the time it took me to type I need a second opinion I had two come in. :) Now I'm a happy bunny.

Just wanna say that Japan uses 100-120v @ 60hz. The PS3 just happens to use a multivoltage PSU which is nice.. must be part of their region free plan. Unfortunately my Japanese Xbox 360 doesn't do multivoltage so I'm stuck with a very heavy 300w stepdown transformer brick in addition to the Xbox power brick :(

Ok, I have found an old kettle lead (it's amazing how you can always find one of these lying around somewhere) but it has a 10a fuse - you definately think I should swap to 3a?

Yeh, My friend is just using a lead he had laying around the house,

FYI I played on a PS3 yesterday :D Japanese like, But ohwell! Its the 1st time i've had the gaming butterflies since the christmas morning I got my PS2.

Really nice, PS3 plus his Sony Bravia, i was wowed beyond belief :p

Don't get me wrong, GOW on his Bravia is wow too

I hate him :( Damn over payed Bio Engineering dude, I hope he catches smallpox. :p :D

Sorry if this sounds a bit thick but what's the deal about the Japanese language? Do all you guys who have imported Japanese things read/speak Japanese or do all their products have English language options?

All the ps3 units have english language options as do all the games at the moment

I guess you were using a UK 220v power pack since you could mix and match these between different region machines. Again, I was stuck with a 100-120v one in my N64 days :(

actually just checking, its a jap machine (nus-001jpn) with a hong kong supply (nus-002hkg) that plays American games....in the uk lol

my apologies :)
