Jason Statham - how old is he?

Being a smart arse, I googled it but there's completely conflicting reports on different sites. Some say 1972 some say 1967. :p How odd.
 
I'm a fan of his and have often checked his IMDB page to see his latest films etc. I'm quite sure it's always said 1972 until now! Weird.
 
I know Wikipedia is not always viewed as the most authorative of sources but I just clicked one of the links relating to his birthdate and it sends you to a New York Daily News article from 2002 where it mentions he was 35 at the time of writing. From that I'd be tempted to go with the idea that you looked at an article where they had got his birthdate wrong and that stuck in your head rather than the date being changed (for what reasons I'm not sure) - it's one of those things where it's probably quite easy for an inaccuracy to be repeated.

Then again another article mentions him being 26 in 1995 which reconciles with neither of the birthdates you thought of so maybe people just make it up randomly.

Who provides the information for those things though? Sometimes it'll be people working for the actor/actress and other times it's probably just some random fan who may well just have taken the information from an inaccurate article.

Maybe his date of birth has changed but if it was right in an article in 2002 (and matches the current date on IMDB) then it suggests to me there was probably an error which has been repeated in a few places before being belatedly corrected on IMDB rather than anything else.

It might also be worth having a look at the Wikipedia history, way back in 2005 (page appears to have started in 2004) there were corrections for the D.O.B. to be 1966 which again differs from the 1967 that it seems it should be.
 
If you read that IMDB forum thread then the chap there who did his research is certain it is 1967. And it does seem to fit with the facts as he presents them.
 
Definitely looks like he lies about his age, wiki has him down as being born in 1967, source, Births, Deaths & Marriages Register.
 
Seems conclusive then. Not that it matters either way, I was just curious. I wonder why he would pretend to be younger, I thought only women did that :p Oh well.
 
He's a really likeable and charismatic guy. I had him down for being around 40 anyway.

I love him in Death Race.

Also, I just read a fact on him that was a member of the British Olympic diving team in 1988! :)
