Lo all,

When ever I run a Java app be it embedded in a webpage or a bit of software like Limewire it makes my screen go black and then crash. I have tried unInstalling and reinstalling Java but it does the black screen of death when I try and uninstall it. However, if I got back to control panel after restarting there is no Java there to uninstall.

Has anyone heard of this? is there any way I can totaly remove Java and everything associated with it and try again? I really don't want to have to format.

Help me OcUK-kenobi, you're my only hope.

cheers

Shot in the dark here, sounds like your are using the sun release but ...

Are you using the ms jvm or the current sun release?
Hopefully your using the sun release, but check if you have the ms version installed, try uninstalling it that and see if it helps.

Hvae you had a go starting from scratch with a full download from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
You need JRE 5.0 Update 6 and I recommend the off-line install. It's a bigger initial download but I think easier to use than the interactive version as all the components are on your PC.
Although the Installation Instructions don't suggest it, I'd remove your existing version which should show in Add/Remove Programs as J2SE Runtime Environment.

If you still have problems try a search for Java on the Microsoft site.
