hi guys my psu is a jeantech bought last year from a famous pc store (robbing gits) it says 500watt max and 18a on the 12 volt rail. problem is im wondering if its up to the job now? cant overclock my 6800gt very much followed all guides that i have found. if i try to get it past 370 core and 1050 memory i get a chequer board and pc dies. now is this cuz of the psu or just unlucky with my card. opps nearly forgot card is 6800gt glaciers fitted withj the nv blower. any ideas?

On the BFG site for a 6800 GS the recommended is 18A on the +12v rail so I'm guessing your pushing it rather hard with the overclocks your running.

Ignore that they also list the minimum as 350 Watt in the same paragraph cos it is the +12v that matters here, a high end 350 Watt PSU may have more than 18A on the +12v (or dual rails with more than one +12v).

Your trying to run it at the same clock speeds as the GS 370 and 1050, and the cards are so close technically the power requirements would be very similar.

I had a 550w Jeantech psu in my Phong case powering a 754 3400+ (claw), MSI K8N Neo Platinum, 1GB pc 3200, Asus V9999GE Gamer edition (very souped up 6800) 2 hard drives, CDRW, DVDRW, Fan controller with 4 fans aamd two Vantec hdd coolers. I could overclock the cpu tfrom 2.2ghz to 2.395ghz 1:1 with the memory, and overclock the graphics card from the stock 350/500 to 430/1100. This was stable and an easy every day running setting. The Jeantech was faultless throughout and is still going strong in the same rig today. Not bad for a psu i only paid £35 for from the same high street store.
