hi i have got an xfx xxx edition 8800gtx the 630 mhz core ,
anyway i have been having problems after a couple off hours gaming so i decided to monitor temps . as title says i was very surprised to see 85 c recorded , anywhooos at that temp the fan is spinning at 2000rpm does anybody know if that is the fastest the fan can go ? and secondly i presume the card throttles back when it gets to hot is that right ? and sorry for the essay guys but i'm sorry i know i have read it here before but i have forgotten whats the best utility to manually alter fan speeds

Do a search for a post I did on linear fan control using Rivatuner.

85C isn't very hot for a stock cooler is it?
85c underload is quiet low for a stock colder...

The 8800gtx idle temp is about 62C

Yes the card will throttle back at some temp over 100c (I think it somewhere around 106c)

My card BSOD's at 106 degrees. Well that and the constant sound of capacitor's making an electronic buzzing sound = RMA.

85 is normal and a GTX can easily handle it.

god job its got a two year warranty hey .
still don't feel comfortable with it running that hot though , i will have a play with the fan speeds to see if i can get it a little cooler .
