American singer and actress Jennifer Lopez has won a cybersquatting case against a U.S. web operator who registered two Internet addresses that used her name for commercial profit, a U.N. agency said on Thursday.
The disputed domain names, jenniferlopez.net and jenniferlopez.org, directed users to a website that generated paid advertising revenues, according to the ruling issued by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

Interesting Case I thought. So if someone wants to claim a domain we own then they can pretty much do as long as they can afford a good lawyer

Discuss Please, Money rules or Bully rules or the guys got what he deserved ????

He was using her name to generate money. He had no prior claim on the name and no affiliation to the name. It's only purpose was as a redirect. If it had instead been someone called Jennifer Lopez who had the domain removed I would be somewhat more concerned.

This was the correct decision.
If he was using the domain names to create a "fan site" or similar, or that was also the owners name etc then they would have a good claim.
Instead they were simply using the popularity of the person to gain revenue.

Good decision.

Don't see a problem with it in this case... would have been different if it was a non profit fansite or setup by someone with the same name, etc.
