Over-dramatic journalism from the BBC, shock horror. He wasn't car-jacked in the slightest.

I think it should read,

thats what I think happened anyway.

I would also point out the bit about "reinforced armoured vehicle", not exactly your everyday road car, so I doubt that he was in specific danger.
