But compared to any other car I have driven in recent times it was deff. a bit of a barge. (Golf GTI, VR6, Renault Clio, Ford Focus Zetec (no it isn't an S)).
These aren't just plain old 10th hand golfs - I'm a big VR6 fan - first one only had 3K miles on the clock and the latest one had 10K worth of work on it before I got it including professionally rebored for 200BHP.

(BMW 335i Coupe) This must be the best drivers car around and he calls it a "dog"
The 116 was a real effort around carparks, etc. and on the motorway you felt like it took forever to change lanes
whats winter mode out of interest ?
damn he's a fun writer!![]()
It reduces torque to the wheels in lower gears to help with pulling away in icy conditions.

what the hell ?
Not really true though. Some of these ridiculously torquey engines these days make too much torque at even idle RPM to go anywhere on an icy road. It's like why in Formula 1 they use different engine maps with less torque in the low and mid range for wet races.Forgive me for sounding like a broken record but here we go again. Technology for the sake of it, utterly pointless. The accelerator pedal does exactly what you mentioned.
I just seen the specs for the engine in the 335. Awesome.
Power 306bhp @ 5800rpm
Torque 295 lb ft @ 1300rpm
Fuel 29.7mpg (combined cycle)
Sooooo much torque practically at tickover! I wonder if it runs out of puff really quickly over 5800 rpm though...
