Jet Washing Under the Bonnet: Good Idea or Stupid?

Just curious, local jetwash is good for rinsing off the soap after a good hand wash, what about a hot shampoo spray with the bonnet up to clean some grease and grime: good or stupid idea?

Stupid, it might end up going into the airbox or into a fuse box.

I wouldn't do it :)

EDIT : FFS MRSIX !! :p

i went to the jetwash last week and saw somebody do this

lift up the bonnet and start spraying away

and i was like "omg you cant be serious"

glad im not the only one who thinks that ..

Cold water Plus hot engine can = sad sad times for it :(

Kinda like putting a cold glass in hot water but less explosive :D

Ive done it before, with a hot water pressure washer/steam cleaner. Kept away from the electrics, fuses etc, covered the airbox intake up, dried everything after, distributor cap, etc. Worked a treat.

I've done it before on my diesel, but was using degreaser etc. at the same time, and was being rather careful of inlet pipes etc.

My brother's mate on the other hand decided to give my car a jet wash (it was looking dirty) and he managed to shaft the electrics, the immobaliser and alarm etc. all were going off, now they are rather shafted.

I can't even take my car away from my brother as I live too far away and have nowhere to store it here at uni...hopefully that'll change, as I want to strip some of the electrics out and redo them, make it all work again. - over the summer.
