Hi all,

I have a HP en3700 Jet Direct external print server attached to a HP P1005 laserjet printer.

Everything works, in so far as, the card detects the print, and my ethernet PC can install the Printer, but...

1. I cannot print a config page from the JetDirect card (it has a button that you press);
2. I cannot print from the PC - it merely sticks it in a queue, and eventually errors the device.

In Win7 'Devices and Printers' it reports the P1005 (Copy 1) as the active device, yet insists on creating a ghost (offline) printer of the P1005. Neither work or all printing.

What am I doing wrong, or what can I try?

I've updated the JetDirect firmware, and as far as I can tell (which isn't far) the card is correctly configured...

Thanks in advance...

How have you diagnosed that the JetDirect server is detecting the print? Just being in a queue in the OS means nothing for example. Would not be surprised if the server is dead.

JetDirects like to keel over :D

Is the LJ 1005 a host based printer? IIRC there are a few low-end HPs that use the PC they are connected to do for rendering the job so don't work on an external JetDirect.

Is "Host Based" mentioned in an of the drivers for the 1005?

Sadly the product spec for the en3700 here doesn't list the P1005 as a supported printer :( The closest is a LaserJet 1015.

Probably the case as others have said that the P1005 is a host-based printer and needs the PC to render the page for it...

I had this JD adaptor with a HP1020 and I had the same problems - it is not happy with some host based printers despite claiming it's compatible with them.

I got this after I got an Netgear PS121 and it failed in a similar way.
