Our Zanussi built in double oven started whining the other day and also noticed there wasn't much air coming out from between bottom and top door. This oven has a cooling fan on back which comes on when you turn the oven on - This isn't the cooking fan inside oven.
The last time I saw one it was behind a mesh cover on back of cooker so thought I will just get it out !!!

Got cooker out in two minutes - took an hour to prep it.

On my workmate I have a square of ply with battons on bottom so I can use it clamped onto workmate as a extra bench so put that on then the cut two 4x4's and put on top -screwed them down and there was a nice slider for the oven.

When it was out and looked on back it seems the fans are now behind the rear cover. So back in it went and wife was jumping up and down with joy as we are now having a new cooker. This one is 11 years old.

These are not slats but paint marks where i put slats on ply and painted them

probably too late now but i found when our fan at the rear of the oven was playing up , wining and stuttering all it needed was taking it out and cleaning most was accesible through a removable grill inside the oven...full of grease and build up works fine now...just wish the timer would work ..no doubt another job on the list:)

So you took a load of photos to show how you made a fancy thing to rest your oven on, which you didn't need, and then didn't fix it?

Yep. The wife is 70 and I am 77 -both of us has arthritis and feeling our age - If I could have fixed it I would have done - at least 30 yrs ago I would have- Also that thing is bloody heavy.
When has 2 been a load.
Still being a baby boomer pensioner I really should sell up and buy a new house with new appliances in. Solved.

@DXP55 cooling fan on that oven is it the top above the grill, six screws down side, four half way in on top and one at rear on top. It's a scroll fan and has two screws either side of it on vent case.
Warm air fan is behind cover in bottom oven for blade but motor is round back, the screws holding it it are in the cavity and may be quite difficult to remove.
I know your looking at new one but thought I'd give you a heads up :)

Fair play im in my early 30s with a similar zanussi if this had been me this would have be an obituary thread about how I was crushed by an oven trying to get it out on my own and was found 4 weeks later

Fair play.

I take it back, apologies.

Not that I wish to be 'that guy' but don't you think you ought to get some help in. I'm not sure your wife would be too pleased if you hurt yourself. Takes longer to heal these days ;)

Accepted :)

While it was out I did get the garage vac out and used the blow function and gave all the cavities a good blast of air. When cooking yesterday the whine has gone and there is a airflow between main and top oven. - Might not buy a new one after all.

My helping hand is away on holiday so that's why I made it as safe as possible - The wife was a carer and we are both aware of having an acccident.

Peter - I did have one of the original workmates all made from alluminium - gave it away a few years ago as couldn't be assed to buy repair kit.

After further exploring I have now found that the cooling air vent is under the control panel and above top oven. There is a gap of about 20/25mm and shining a torch up there shows two sensors (looks like) -One on right which is spotless and I assume for the top oven which we only use for keeping stuff warm while cooking other bits and one on left is for main oven.
This one on left is completely covered in a black crust just like black shiney soot you get in chimneys - Turned off power then with a straighted metal coat hanger pushed it up and poked it - it was solid couldn't even chip a bit off.

So are there any oven engineers on here who have come across this and is it easy to get too - if the top comes off then I think it will but don't fancy taking sides off.

I think one is a fan initiation stat the other an over heat protection stat, should be accessible by removing top front half.
Let me know the pnc and I'll have a quick look on our system but I wouldn't be bothered to change it unless it had failed.

It is still working but really coked up - there isn't the flow of air there used to be - pnc -is that the number on the label

Here you go Sir
Might be older than you thought

Can I just take the top off to clean out cooling air way. ?

Thanks

Duct is a sealed unit but better access from fan side, I'm guess the fan is just running a bit slower than it used too.
You may be able to strip it down but we just change them and the stats are cut in at 45oC and cut out is 110oC. Cooling fan part number is 337 00 00-41 / 0

Thanks for that - I will have a good look around - Looking at bit's before it might just be easier and cheaper just to buy a new cooker being as it's 11 yrs old
