Hi.

When you apply for a job anywhere, if you hear back if you get an interview or anything, is it always by phone and rarely by letter? Just I want to go home for a week soon if I don't hear back by then but don't want to come back finding I have a letter regarding a job app.

Thanks
Will.

I've had a job interview sent by letter once... Only happened once though.
was for a job in Birmingham

if time is of the essence then they'll use an instant response medium, if it's not they'll send a letter. In my experience even if I was getting a letter I've got a phone call before I've received the letter.

Just got accepted for a job and it was firstly by phone to confirm and then they sent a letter with the contract.

I got a job yesterday, but I spent the previous six weeks jobhunting. And in my experience it seems that if your application is unsuccesful you're lucky to hear back from them at all.

It drove me nuts. The least they can do is have the decency to send you some kind of reply.

Yea, I recently applied for c.120 jobs and heard back from about 15-20? Interviewed for 8 and got 1. It's ridiculous the response though, it's like you're not going to make them money it's not worth their time. One reason I'm glad I'm not in the industry anymore.

Or even worse, take 3 months after the first interview before offering you a second interview. :p Infact, I believe my second interview was nearly 3 months ago now so maybe I'll get the a job offer or refusal in a couple of weeks? :D

This, it's the worst part of job hunting, I prefer to get an automated email telling me no tbh.

Definately agree. Makes me pretty angry when they don't even have the courtesy to let you know your application was received and read, let alone whether you were considered for the position.

Very, very rude. I know you can be busy sorting applicants, but it takes 1 minute to send a "sorry" email.

Ive been job hunting aswell, but most of them sent me a reply like "We'll keep your appliation on file for 6 months" for the interviews ive been invited to most of them have been through telephone and a couple through e-mail.

although for the interviews ive attended most of them didnt even bother to tell me that i didnt get the job.

Myself and a few friends all applied for the same position a few weeks back. One of us was lucky enough to get the job, and this was the only way the rest of us knew we were not succesful.

If we hadn't known the girl who got the job then we would still have been waiting to hear back from them.

Utterly pathetic. I vote that notifying applicants wether they are successful or not becomes a legal requirement.

Ive been searching for 6 months and the fact that you don't even get a response is out of order tbh. Iv'e had about 10 responses from around 100 applications saying no. It would be nice to know if your application has even been read.

you can always call their hr department a few days after you apply for the job to make sure they got it... also brings your CV to their attention if they have a big pile..

they will be getting loads of people apply you cannot expect them to reply to people they dont want to give a job to...

if you get no reply assume they don't want to give you a job its easy...
