Hello all, I've got a few job interviews coming up in the next few weeks (HM Revenue & Customs) and HM Prison Service (Prison officer) however I am waiting for them to get back to me as they are both arranging interview/assesment centres. I passed online tests for both jobs and I am hopefully of getting one of the jobs (fingers crossed!). However I have issues with my current employer.
I currently work for the biggest supermarket chain and have done for five years now. I originally started off on the bakery part-time whilst at college and university. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy Uni so I packed in and currently work FT on customer services and have done for just over a year now. My original intention was to go for management training but due to the store in general being utterly useless at putting people forward for management courses and messing me around for months saying they would and they just totally ignoring my requests to progress further with the company I decided enough was enough and had showdown talks with my personnel about a month ago. I stressed to her that my current manager on my department is not acting in the best interests of me and our department and basically said I wanted to move department for the time being. At this moment In time I am off sick for 3 weeks due to personal health reasons and I'm due to go back tomorrow. Another reason I have been unhappy in my job is that due to a few ill spells I've had in the past few years people have been making comments behind my back whislt I've been off sick (I even found out my section manager had made comments which I reported to my PM) and I have no intention of working with such two faced people. In regard to one of my managers making comments can I actually do anything about this? I have one person who I work with who witnessed her saying this (to his face) and they have said they will come forwards if I decide to take it further. However when I spoke to my PM before I was off sick she was trying to discourage me bringing these comments up in my welcome back to work and attendence reviews as she feels her comments are not related to me being off sick? I doubt this and feel she is covering the back of the team leader who made the comments about me. I'm unsure whether to bring this up or count on them dealing with this outside of my attendence reviews?
I seriously have no faith in them helping me and don't trust the fact that they will even move me (they have promised to). Really not sure what to do!
. As far as my current employer is concerned they don't know I'm applying for other jobs, as I'm not 100% I will get offered another job soon I feel I could burn my bridges with them and then get knocked back elsewhere and being stuck in my current job which I hate. I sacrificed dropping uni to do management training so I feel well and truely stabbed in the back by my current employer. I know I'm better than this place and I am definately overqualified for shop work but I really fancied a career in there but they are not helping me one bit.
If I get the dates for these interviews do my current employer have to let me go or can they be fussy and only let me go on my day off (friday)? I am also unsure what to do because if I tell them about applying elsewhere they won't move me and keep me on the department I currently unhappy on. I am also certain that once they find out I don't want to be there anymore they will make life difficult for me until I move on.
Any advice/help would be really appreciated! Thanks.
Nick.
