I had got to the 3rd stage of a government job application and had been emailed links to some tests to complete to get through to the next round. I logged in and had a look at the mathematic practise test, which I completed without any difficulty so set about the main mathematics test.

I started off at a fine pace, but towards the middle of the test the questions became more and more strangely worded and started taking longer and longer to do. The upshot being that I ran out of time and had to guess 2 answers and didn't even get to answer a third, considering there were 21 questions losing 3 marks seems to be a pretty big deal.

I am so hacked off with myself right now, since this was the best opportunity I have had so far.

it depends, lots of people are terrible at maths who might be applying, you still have a good chance, there are other factors to consider than just 1 maths test, don't worry

Was this an SHL test? You should have done the numerous practice tests available online first.

I did practise tests and had no problem with them, for some reason I just seemed to slow down in the actual one (probably because I was so nervous).

Considering I found the verbal one a piece of cake I am a bit hacked off that I wrecked this opportunity.

I will go and purchase my ticket to board the failboat.

They prefer you to not finish rather than guessing random answers.

It said on the test something along the lines of 'If you feel you are running out of time give the best estimate and move on to the next question'

3... 3 is nothing...

Ive done a fair few of these psychometric tests and it appears you cannot fail them.. IBM, Accenture, Siemens.. I didnt complete any of them yet still passed.

I did fail the tests for another company, but that was on the actual interview and they were insane.

But get off the failboat and await your results.

I wouldn't worry too much. I applied to e.on when I was looking for graduate jobs and got a phone call a few minutes in. Only answered between half and 2/3 of the questions and still got to the interview

Well I actually got to the next stage despite what I thought was a pretty poor test.

Now they are putting me up in a hotel so I can have an assessment day :o
