During the last year I was receiving JSA (3 or so months worth), just before the economical decline.
Due to a lot happening with family etc I stopped going and claiming the money every 2 weeks. (without giving any official notice to them)

I'd like to start claiming it again (due to the crappy job situation atm), I was wondering what the procedure is to start reclaiming it.

Obviously ringing them would be the best bet, and is of course required, but I'm unsure on what they might ask and wondered if any of you folks here have done the same, so I could prepare better and whatnot.

Any information/advice would be appreciated!

Thanks,
James

I did the same about 5 years ago, was on it for a little while then found a job & just never had the time to sign off properly, they never sent me any overpayments & never contacted me, i've been working ever since & if something happened to my work i'm guessing i'd just have to go claim again.

I work for the DWP now and although i only really deal with Pension Credit & State pensions i reckon they will have suspended & then just cancelled your claim after a while when you didn't turn up.

I wouldn't ever go on the dole. I don't agree with it unless there is a very valid reason why, hope you are looking for work, makes it acceptable.

Why not its what you pay for in your taxs hold on your a student you dont pay taxes yet you still use government services.

As far as I'm aware if you don't go and sign on on the day you're supposed to they cancel your payments from that date.

If it was from the beginning of 2009, then you'll have 180 something days minus the number of days you claimed jsa for this year.
example: if you claimed for 3 months jan feb march, signed off, then want to claim again, if it's within 6 months of your last claim it will be treated as a continuation of the same claim. This used to be 12 weeks but was changed to 6 months at the end of 2008. So in effect you'll only be able to claim jsa for another 3 months this year, then you'll have to be means tested for income support or something, or perhaps be entitled to income based jsa ie all that will pay is your national insurance stamps.

That's more or less the situation I found myself in last year/this year after being made redundant and using my redundancy payments to live opn instead of claiming jsa immediately; they reconed I'd not paid enough ni to be allowed to claim that year, never mind the 5 years of fulltime work / tax and ni I paid before that.

Best thing to do is go to the joke centre and speak to them in person.

Are you an idiot? JSA covers NI contributions, and gives you some cash and is the starting block to apply for other benefits such as CT benefit.

You are such a tool its unbelievable.

to the OP, believe me nobody cares unless there is an overpayment, just go to the job centre and ask them what benefits you are eligible for whether this is just JSA (ib) or IS, HB/CTB etc, they will tell you.

It's not about slacking and living a sweet life on someone elses money, but as Iamzod said to make it go around until you get one.

if u stopped claiming within the last month u can do a rapid reclaim (easier on the forms) if not just phone the job centre asking for jsa.

if u need money to tie u buy ask for a emergency payment.

the job centre doesnt know it's *** from it elbow.

You're a moron. And you know why.

So, if you are unable to find work, because of a lack of available jobs, and you have no income - what do you do? Just drop down and starve? Beg? What is your solution?
