Yes it was not great news to wake up to this morning
Been a collector of his work since I learned about him in 1990. I'd purchased the Beano album and then saw him featured on C4's Rock Steady programme, which was promoting his new album A Sense of Place. That became (and remains) a favourite, and then I went off collecting all the older stuff and every new album that came along.
Fortunate enough to say hello and wish him well for the show at one of only two live shows I saw of his. I bumped into him outside the venue in Liverpool 2003, when I was trying to cool off a bit before the performance later on.
It's amazing how long he continued on the road and in the studio, only stopping quite recently.
