Hi Folks,

Just wondering which interior paint is better, the Dulux Trade or Johnsons Cova Plus? Ive been doing a bit of pricing and the Johnsons stuff is £29 inc vat for 5L and the Dulux £32,95 for 5L, so not much in it at all.

What would you recommend?

Also I last did some decorating 10 years ago, and that was with cheap kit, so im wondering what the best place is for mid range rollers and brushes, Toolstation?

Cheers all!

Either really, for basic colours Leyland is fine.

I use toolstation for loads of decorating stuff, owned by wickes, and generally same quality stuff. If you have a wickes with toolstation inside they seem to locally compete, well our one does.

I was very disappointed with Leyland satinwood, went yellow within a couple of months. I used Dulux trade emulsion to white out my whole house before decorating and it covered really well.

In the middle of painting a few rooms at the moment (all on new plaster), for one of the rooms I used retail Dulux (Polished Pebble vinyl) and it went on great , just a mist coat and one full covering. For the other rooms I had purchased Dulux Trade Vinyl White, really really not impressed, has taken loads of coats to get a decent covering and taken flipping ages. Will not be using this on the third room and will be picking up an alternative.

Covaplus every time, you'll use less and it'll be quicker.

From experience, I'll never use another. If I 'find' paint from work I regret not buying Covaplus even though it's free.

I tried dulux endurance brilliant white which was 26 quid from normal 38 quid 5litre. from b&q.

But sadly it looks like it may require a good 3-4 coats on my old plaster walls !

I would advise strongly to avoid the dulux stuff, not unless you enjoy going over walls and ceilings many times over.

I have only started on the hallway so may return my other pots, does anyone know if Johnsons Cova Plus gets better coverage and with lesser coats?

Im doing some painting at the moment and would be interested in trying Johnsons Cova Plus, whats the difference between matt and vinyl matt tho? i dont want a sheen to my walls but a flat look.

Covaplus or enduramatt are both excellent products.

Vinyl matt has slightly more sheen but it's much more durable - contract matt (normal matt) is basically super flat but it's not designed for any wear and tear.

Jonnos aqua trim paints are also very good with the addition of some floetrol.

In terms of brushes and kit I tend to find independent deckie centres have the best - wooster, purdy, hamilton etc.

Never seen good brushes in the likes of wickes or b&q, never really seen good paint in them places to be honest. All retail crap, no trade gear.
