I was activated yesterday with Plus net FTTC 80/20M.

From the start I was having issues with down speeds being around 10-20Mbps, the speed is quite erratic and also quite slow.

I am connected by home plugs.

The tech support guy asked me to connect direct to the BT modem by passing the plusnet router, I did this and speed test came in ts 72Mbps, this was with my sons pc at the modem connecting through ethernet.

Plugged back into the router, it came in at 19Mbps.

This confirmed a faulty router.

Fast forward today, new router arrived. It wouldn't connect to the internet and I couldn't log in or see the router through 192.168.....

I reset both modem and router and tried the cables again, this time it synced.

Only issue now is slow speed again, I have now connected over the home plugs direct to the modem and again speed is slow.

Now I am lost, not sure where to go from here.

Ok, got the pc to the router.

Now with the new router I'm connecting at 73Mbps at both the new router and modem.

Through my AV200 powerblocks, reduced speed again at 15Mbps, changed the powerblock for another, now 25Mbps.

Speed changes everytime I do a test. When I was with Sky FTTC I got 35Mbps which doesn't make sense.

I could throw myself off a bridge right now.

Purchased a set of 500Mbps powerbricks, the speed through them with the pc near the router, so the two pair are using the same socket are 50Mbps.

No difference at all with the new powerbricks.

I guess this means it must be down to the internal wiring of the house and I'll need cat5/6 or a house re-wire to get full speed............

A decent wireless 5GHz setup will give you that speed.

You mention powerbricks, do you mean extension leads or are you referring to the Powerline adaptor units themselves?

You made me wonder with the wireless comment, So I tried my mobile phone on the wireless. I got 3Mbps, what is happening, I must be missing something here.

After more testing I only get 50Mbps in the same room through home plugs.

In a different room on the same floor I get 15-30Mbps.

Just can't understand before when with Sky I was on a slower service but got 30Mbps.

Yes, I did think of that but still got the same speed.

I got too frustrated with this, so went out today and got 25M of Cat5e cable and two face plates, dug up my laminate run the cat5e underneath and connected to the face plates.

Here's my results-

a solid plusnet result if I've ever seen one (looks identical to mine :p )

must be some funky wiring in your house to lose so much over home plugs :\

edit: oh random Q.... with plusnet.... does it show your location to be incorrect on the speedtest? when ever I do a speed test with mine it always puts my location as london, or sometimes up near birmingham :p I'm not really bothered as I get my promised bandwidth... just find it odd :p

Probably,to do with their routing onto the internet. My sky Fibre often says London too.
