Anyone have a joint account with their partner?

Trying to figure out if, it would be better than running the house on two separate bank accounts between my misses and I. And we split bills by % of salary - like we've done for a long time now. However with the recent changes and the move etc, we are now wondering if a joint account would make things easier.

How do you split up the finances and do you still keep a solo account? And who is your joint account with if you have one.

We too have joint accounts. One for the mortgage and other direct debits (regular bills) and another for and petrol. We also have a joint savings account.

Any left overs stay in our own accounts to spend on ourselves.

How we do it also, I'm a stickler for budgets, so we put in each month the exact amount (give or take) for our direct debits going out and the petrol and food we budget for, if it looks like we're going over I move money from the savings. I like a spreadsheet to keep on top of it :)

We then have our sole accounts for anything individual, although I tend to move most of mine into the savings

We have a joint account for household type stuff. Been earning a similar amount as each other for ~15 years or so, the math is simple. The household costs x amount to run, we both have a standing order (or whatever it's called these days) for half. Usually spend the surplus on summer hols.

What I don't appreciate is seeing how much she spends on clothes she doesn't even like, and I am sure she doesn't really need to know how much my new monitor was, so it saves some agro

We've also go a joint account. All the salary and bills and stuff is handled from that account, from there on we have Chase cards which we transfer spending money to every week. It helps us keep track of spending (coming from a couple that can go through money faster than Diddy goes through lube).

We also have double perks with Chase as we both get the 1% on our spending and stuff.

I could write a whole thesis on extracting value from your money but I'll leave it at that for now :D

We have our own accounts that our pay goes into, then we have a joint account that we both pay a fixed DD into every month. Shared living expenses like supermarket, mortgage, utility bills etc all come out of the joint account and usually come to less than we are putting in meaning there is usually a small fund there to cover unplanned household expenses. Other spending comes out of our individual accounts as appropriate.

We've a joint account for almost everything.

Phones, internet provider, mortgage, cat costs, utilities, home insurances, personal insurances, streaming services

Solo accounts for car payments, car tax, insurance, petrol, gym memberships and gym supplements.

My salary goes directly into the joint account and I transfer out what's left , after bills, to the solo account for me to use day to day

Do the exact same apart from supermarket bills, my wife is a sucker for the middle aisle in Aldi and i'm not paying for that :D

Yep, joint account for mortgage, bills, food, petrol, house and garden purchases, holidays and going out together.

Personal accounts for any other spends on self or going out without other half.
Salary goes into personal accounts and we transfer over a fixed amount into joint account each month.

All Natwest accounts. I quite like their app, and it makes topping up joint account quick and easy.

Joint account, all wages/bills
Monthly spending account also joint, this is like, other than bills, amazon, mainly stuff for the kids these days.
Find it easier to track spending this way, we get paid a different times of the month and bills are aligned to each of these, this makes it easier.
Savings joint

We have a joint account to cover the household expenses (Rent, utilities, days out etc) that we each pay proportionately into. Then whatever is left is our own to save/do as we please with

As above, I live with my brother and have an account that we pay equally into, for the recurring household bills.

Joint account we both put 50% in each month which leaves us money for personal stuff (graphics cards)
Mortgage and all house hold bills are debited from.

We have a joint credit card too which nearly every thing else goes through and the balance is cleared monthly from the joint bank account.

We spend 5 mins a month going through the credit card bill laughing at what each other have bought and if it's a substantial amount you chip the extra in (graphics card)

It works really well for us and every now and then we either use the excess for a holiday or a bigger purchase towards the house, bought a new robot vacuum last week Q revo ultraV its sooooon much better than the previous lol

Thanks all, seems super common thing to do.

I've just opened up a Monzo account and the misses is doing the same and then will open up a joint account with them to get the ball rolling. Decided on a 60/40 split as I earn more than she does by a fair margin so, seems fair I should pay a higher %.

Will then move all DD and bills to come out of that account and give it a trial run for a few months. Seems like it would make managing things much easier for the bills.

Not sure what we will do with our savings though. We have a few thousand in each personal account that we consider "ours". Might move that to the joint account too, if there is a separate "pot" there for it - will see how it works once the misses is done opening her Monzo account.
