Hi,

I sometimes get problems with joints when I'm working out. Random example is I may have to stop doing push ups because my elbow is hurting. It gets very annoying.

My question is, are there any simple changes I could make to my diet to help stop this?

I'm 19 and I sometimes feel 50 :(

Really depends where the pain lies...tendons/bone/cartilage?

Omega3/fish oil should help and you should be getting plenty of this anyway as it's important for many reasons. Could also try some Glucosamine. Won't help if it's a tendon problem like tennis elbow or something though. You'll want to check the form of your movements to make sure you're not putting unnecessary stress on the joints, as well as not pushing yourself too hard so that joints end up bearing most of the weight when your muscles start to fail. Don't underestimate the power of a proper warm up either.

cod liver oil for life imo

I met far too many older man with decent physiques in the gym crying about their joints hurting after 30-40 years of weight lifting surely it must take it's toll on the joints

it has made me take this every day

what glucosamine you lot taking? ie where did u get it from?

I got mine from some amazon shop and i stopped taking it because it gave me an adverse affect on my body
seemed to get spots on my forehead

my protein do some glucosamin which I've taken before. I think it helped but I can't be sure. I'm taking super omega 3 from MP and haven't had any of my usual joint aches.

I take MSM Glucosamine and Chondroitin. A lot of companies put them together and call the product something like Joint Formula.

Its good stuff :)

Pretty much what Clum said it could be tendonitis, I usually get this after doing several weeks of max effort benching. If we are talking all of your joints follow N19h7m4r3's advice :)

Ice & Nurofen gel are your friend!

Ok I've started taking codliver oil. 1 double tablet a day.

Hopefully should make a difference.

Thanks for the replies.

omega-3/fish oil > cod liver oil

omega-3 allows higher doses than cod liver oil...I haven't tried glucosamine.

Using that as a slightly aggressive example, I need to take around 16 capsules per day of the omega-3 fish oil caps I have at the moment (from Tescos). To get the same levels of EPA/DHA from cod liver would cause me to consume too much vitamin a/d (one is quite dangerous but I can't remember which one).

Normally I aim for around 12 capsules per day.

Things like glucosamine might also be worth a look.

Glucosamine HCL and Chondroitin are a great stack with omega 3/6/9 caps (I take 9 per day).

Joint pain could be an indicator of an underlying issue, my girlfriends got fibromyalgia and I've got a condition where all my joints are compromised and prone to injury. Both of us have issues with certain exercises. Docs visit could be handy.

The above stack has helped me a lot, has have corrective postural exercises. It could also be that your tekkers is shocking ;)

Ant

What about Krill Oil or Flax seed oil?
