Joist to rafter fixings

Hi all,

Ripped down ceilings and the small sloped parts in my 1950s house, as I thought no insulation there. So I’ll be insulating there.

However my question is more to do with how the joists are fixed to the rafters. Some of them look twisted and like they are separating. What you can’t see is there’s a piece of wood on top of the walls, presumably the rafters are birds mouthed and fixed to that. As well there is a purlin attached to all the rafters in the loft space. The joists then seem to be entirely supported by the fixings to the rafters. In this room they span around 4m.

Looking for hangers and most seem to be for when joists and rafters butt up, whereas these are side by side.

I guess one option would be to put some structural screws or nails through. Would prefer screws, easier.

Any advice?

Thanks. Pics below:

Thanks both, those connectors are a decent idea but would require me to separate them first... I will order them and try hammer a wedge between to separate enough, if it's too tricky I'll just use the bolts.

From memory the thickness of the galv disks is about 10 to 12 mm but it is a while since I used them. :p

A wrecking bar would probably do to separate the wood enough.

Tight hole for the bolt and large washer will be easier and sufficient i think
If you go the dog route it is more hassle as you will have to line up the ceiling joists to retain a straight /level ceiling
