Hi all,

I was wondering if any of you older lot remember when Jonathan Pearce (now BBC) used to commentate on London teams from the old Carling Premiership on a radio station called 1548 Capital Gold ?

I remember how eccentric he used to be and I used to love it.

I can remember growing up and once I think Zola got a goal for Chelsea and he shouted "GOAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL" he was brilliant and I really loved his style.

Since he went to BBC he has toned down but I hope we see him back at some point the way he was!

wow I am surprised none of you remember him on that radio station

It was more a London thing than anything else but when he joined the BBC he totally toned it down.

It is the same man right? The one that commentates on the BBC?

Yup, the same man. He joined Capital Gold in 1987 and after 15 years he left and joined BBC Radio 5 Live in May 2002, in August 2004 he joined the Match of the Day team.

Thanks for the information I think when he used to commentate on the Premiership it then used to be sponsored by carling black label :)

Thank god he toned it down. He's, not that bad tbh.

I remember "KAAAAAAAAANUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU"

and "Giiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggs..."

1548 was great for the Arsenal games in Kent.

lol I think I remember that

I'd love him to be like he used to be. He was brilliant on the radio used to talk so fast and commentary actually sounded decent on the radio!

Oh yes he was also on robot wars he was good on that too but since he went to BBC Sport he's so gone downhill wonder how I could contact him mmmm

I remember. I think I stopped liking football around when the premiership league was formed but I do remember him commentating on the division 1 and 2 games. Used to have the local games on the telly and the radio on with him screaming away :D

Capital Gold was just London back then, I'm pretty sure, so it's only the Londoners here that will remember this? I'm sure it was London games I used to hear as well. Millwall, Chelsea, Wimbledon, Crystal Palace, Charlton, Arsenal etc.

Yep definitely a London thing.

In those days excluding the Bushwackers they all used to be in the Premiership.

I'm going to see if I can get in touch with the man on the BEEB website
