I spent a year in a computer games store when i was 18, i made the effort to chat to people, it got to the point that i had people coming in and asking for me.

It gives you true job satisfaction.

My boss however would have sold a PC game to someone with only a gameboy as long as it made money, he didnt like my approach at all. I didnt force games down their throat, i spoke to them about their setup, suggested other games if their spec didnt measure up and helped people out with any problems once they had bought the software. I wanted customers to come back for repeat business, and he didnt like that

What a big pile of old sweaty knob cheese he was :D

Problem is, generation XYZ or whichever we are in nowadays, just doesn't really give a damn.

This kid might have, and the store might have benefitted, and the customers might have benefitted, but 99% of other kids/store owners don't.

I stopped shopping at one of my "local" shops recently when I went in and the people there didn't even really care. They sucked all of the happiness I had had as I walked into the store, and left me with apathy, plus I was personally stalked around the store by a "bouncer", despite shopping there for > 1.5 years.

Fact is, 99% of people will go for the absolute cheapest product/brand/anything and damn anything else, they don't care when they get to the checkout, they look at you with contempt for being in such a "low" social status. What is really inspiring about this kid is that he rose above it, and showed that he was more than just a bagger.

As the number of people in a community gets larger, the community itself breaks apart and people stop caring about each other. Simple fact.

Oi you want to take this ootside?

It really does matter how you get treated when you go into a store. I dont go the spar i used to go to nearly everyday because a fat grumpy woman now works there.....before it was like little happy old ladies which were fine.

I was sat here, watching that video, waiting for either a huge "scary" face with a scream sound-bite to pop up, or a punch line.

It failed to deliver

So this kid started putting unsolicited rubbish in people's shopping and the result was a checkout backed up half way round the store, blocking the aisles? Not to mention the other checkout staff getting paid for doing SFA. And this is supposed to be a good thing?

Will I be a Johnny today? No, I'll carry on being a [bad word] thanks all the same.

How about people actually start talking about the topic of subject (customer service) instead of just slagging the video off?!

The video makes several valid points that people here could discuss.

Thought it was about a badger for some reason. :o

I work in a Supermarket at check outs and like to think that being friendly and polite give off a good impression for customers to come back.*

There are some valid points in that that isn't really specific to working in retail though, I agree.

*I do it because my supervisor tells me off if I don't
