Joomla replacing a file in the Assets folder

Hi guys any Joomla guys here I'm just helping a friend update his website it was built in Joomla some time ago. I need to replace a file in teh template/assets folder but cant seem to see access to it IN the backend.

Been a very long time since I looked at Joomla, can you replace files from the admin console in that folder ? Or do I need FTP access ?

Just had a look at a joomla backend and the only part I can see you edit templates only allows css and template files to be changed. FTP would be your best bet.

Do you have access to the original template? Could try changing the file in that and then install that as the template if you are unable to get FTP access. Haven't used joomla for a long time so I wouldn't be sure on the specifics of this or if it would be possible.
