I'm looking at going away on a 9 day break to Jordan to see Petra, Amman, Dead Sea, Wadi Rum etc. Something like THIS.

Has anyone else been, as I'm looking for a bit of advice on how to pack should I go... can you get away with travelling light and buying clothing etc while out there? :) I'm thinking of going alone as none of my mates are interested and also split with the bird a while ago :)

Cheers

I was looking at going to Jordan about a month back, before my girlfriend deciding to come away with me meant a swift change of plan to India. This, and Jordan not being an ideal place for budget travel.

As such, I don't have any personal experience of the place to offer, besides that of my Dad, who went there...some time ago. He loved the place, anyway, was over there working for a week or so, and the photos and stories he brought back are what made me want to go investigate it myself.

Anyway, I had a fairly comprehensive read of this site when I was planning. It's mainly geared for people doing independent travel in Jordan, but there are a lot of relevent parts for anyone visiting, and it's written in fairly conversational style for the most part, just by someone who loves the country and has a lot of advice to share. Who knows, you may end up deciding to go it alone :p

Enjoy anyway, hope that helps :)

Thanks, will give it a read :) I fancy doing Egypt too but am a bit unsure with the current political climate :(

I think Egypt is ok...

well I say that - I hope it is because I need to go there for a week or so at the end of the month for work!!

There are some very good budget options for Egypt, especially if you want to add in a bit of scuba diving (where it is also quite cheap and good fun to learn). Free accommodation, damn good cheap food. I'd stay in Cairo for as short time as possible after you've seen the historical sites. You won't worry about the politics when you're there enjoying yourself.

Wherever you go, have a great time!!

:)

Don't talk to anyone's sister. Honour killings are legal in Jordan.
