Good morning.

In a couple of weeks, I make the move over from my trusted iP4 (which has served me well) and Apple, over to the untamed beast that is the Galaxy SIII and the unknown that is Android.

So with that, is there anything that I can do in these next couple of weeks to ensure that my transfer over is as painless as possible?

I’ve already got my contacts set up in Google contacts, but not really sure what else I can do as you can’t buy any of the apps until it’s synced up with the phone….

Thanks.

You could visit the various android app stores and forums and read up about ICS, peoples app experience and reviews, gird your loins and prepare to taste freedom!

Pretty much all you need to do is logon to the phone using your Google account and it will bring all your contacts down. Simples :)

I would say the hardest obstacle when merging from the iPhone to Android is losing the self rightous pompous attitude. Everything else will be a breeze.

jk :)

I'd say the hardest obstacle with moving to Android from Apple, is adopting a strange hatred for Apple and it's users.. :p

Enjoy! Moving from a tiddly 3.5'' screen to a 4.8'' will be amazing, you won't look back. With android I found that at first seemed ok, then I didn't really think it was that good, then I thought it was brilliant. It takes some getting use too since there is so much more you can do.

I made a similar move recently. I've always dabbled with Android devices and I've had a few but I've always had iPhones and iPads as my primary devices. I've moved to the HTC One X and Asus Transformer Prime and sold my iDevices - now that Android is finally mature enough it was time to move.

Haven't looked back.

Thanks for the responses everyone. There does seem to be a slight shift in people moving from their iPhones to Android devices it seems...

Doesn't seem to be much to do then bar setting up your contacts on Google - seems a bit odd.

Like is there a way of getting buying any of the apps before you get the handset?

How do you pay for apps - similar to itunes?

Stuff like bringing texts over will obviously have to be done once the phone is set up as well?

You can import texts in various ways, just needs to be in the same format I guess.

You can browse https://play.google.com/store for apps, but you wont be able to purchase any until your phone is registered with your Google account, which happens when you sign in on your new phone.

You pay for apps via a credit or debit card.

Having done this after a couple of yrs of having an iphone4, i would say Android is a much better and mature OS now. I played with a few Android handsets a few yrs back when it was running gingerbread or one before it and i wasnt that impressed, one of the reasons why i bought an iphone4. But with ICS, Android is a much much better experience.

I went over to a HTC One X a few weeks back and honestly i dont think ill ever go back to the iphone, even the new iphone5 will be hard to jump to as Apple really do restrict what you can and cant do with your phones. Only thing id give Apple is their apps are very good, they look really nice whereas ive found with certain Android apps...they dont look too great on my One X considering its meant to have a 720p screen.
