for these people that have done this, to play Project cars 2 etc

i find using a joypad, makes racing far more difficult than it should be

i can never get on with sims because of this
so im wondering if i bought a steering wheel and pedals (nothing expensive, say £100 ish) would it make the game any easier ?

i did have a steering wheel about a few years back, but not really got the room and parents can hear the rumble it was making (which i assume you can turn off?)
tempted to have another go..

Realistically you are going to need increase that budget a bit.

A Logitech G920 or Thrustmaster T128 or TMX are entry level wheel & pedal sets for about £150 to £200

did a little googling, they seem to recommend a G29 or the better Thrustmaster 350 RS i think they said (due to the belt system etc for around same price)

like you said, if i bot one that costs more, going from a pad to a wheel and pedals make sim racing easier from a novice ?

i find with a joypad i cant take the racing lines properly and i end up off the track

When you start using it, don't expect miracles.
I found, at first, it doesn't make it easier. In fact, you need to get used to using one and you'll probably spend a good amount of time being slower than you were with a pad.
But once you get used to it, it might make you faster and more accurate. But even that isn't the biggest deal. The biggest thing (and this is especially true for you as I know you use VR) is that it is a million times more immersive and fun.

The other thing I would say is vitally important to enjoying using a wheel is sorting out your sitting position and the position of the pedals to be comfortable and stable.

I would have thought it would be possible to get a second hand one in as new condition for a decent price with a bit of searching. Bear in mind that the g920 and g29 are pretty much the same wheel if you're intending to use them with a PC rather than a console.

And they're the archetypal "buy, don't use much, sell on" PC peripheral.

Check Facebook marketplace, eBay, Gumtree, etc.

so, something like this is a good start ?

My son has the Thrustmaster T300RS GT, which comes with the same wheel base as that but has better pedals for £370 new.
It took about a week for him to get up to speed with it, lapping the same times as he was on a controller, but obviously it’s a more realistic control method.

Now he’s improving and has turned off some of the braking and steering assist features, which he might not have been able to do staying on a control pad.

Well, thay one on ebay went for nearly £200, too much for the condition in my opinion

From reading reviews, sdk has both, thrustmaster is the one I should go for, quite and a step up from logitech due to the non belts, and better torque motor
