As the title says looking for a joystick and hoping some of you might have suggestions for me, going to be used on elite was looking at the thrustmaster hotas but I dont think I need the throttle as I use a game pad so looking at just a joystick.

Not sure how compatible the game would be with a joystick and game pad combo. I also suspect it wouldn't be that easy to balance the two. For example how do you change the throttle on the gamepad whilst you are trying to twist and turn your ship with the joystick?

Of all the controllers currently available the Saitek X55 seems to be the most versatile, closely followed by the X52, but the X55 being slightly more modern may work better on some PC hardware (X52 drivers are ancient). However if that is far too much money the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas seems to be a nice balance. I know a friend went the whole money is no object thing and got the Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog with added Saitek Rudder pedals, having had the X52, but he is now ditching the Warthog and reverting to an X52/X55 because the twist rudder on the joystick is more practical and takes up less desk/floor space.

ah think you misunderstood me sorry fella my fault when I say game pad I mean a razer orbweaver

Go full HOTAS and have all the controls at your fingertips!
Will come in handy for other games like Star Citizen and No Mans Sky, too.

I'd recommend a set from CH Products, myself.

I have been looking at them but its a lot of money for something that's going to be sat in a cupboard most of the time unless I go for the entry level thrustmaster

Saying that I have just won a cyborg evo off a well known auction site for the princely sum of £2.99 so I can give the single stick and game pad a go now and if that does not feel right can look at the hotas options.
