Juat been playing civ 3...help please

Ok so been playing civ3 pretty much all day.

Now got totally owned by the computer on normal. I still had spearmen and everyone else had machine guns etc etc.

Now was I doing something totally wrong, as I kept on researching everything but still never managed to go all modern.

Anyone shed some light?

More details - CIV3 is a pretty complicated game. What were your workers doing each turn, how many cities did you have, what did you do at the start of the game, etc etc.

Best thing to probably do is read some strategy forums, you'll learn loads from them.

Also, get CIV4 - CIV3 with bells, and possibly the greatest strategy game of all time.

only got civ 3 due to only costing £3 on steam

will look on the strategy guides, just thought it may have been a straight forward thing.
