I'm looking at putting together some sort of Jukebox solution for a club I'm a member of and was wondering if anyone else has done something similar?

The audio kit and connections are in a cupboard so it looks like the PC will have to be in there, so that presents a bit of a problem regarding control. I'm thinking that a notebook could be used for remote control, either via RDP or through some sort of client app (they want control from behind the bar but want to be able to move it from time to time).

Having a PC behind a bar is generally not a good idea anyway what with moisture from the glass washing machine and the chance of spillages, but I was wondering if anyone else has any ideas? :)

The simplest solution seems to be RDP over their wireless to the PC with Media Player or Winamp running but there must be a more elegant way of doing it. On the hardware side I'd probably just build a simple HTPC with RAID 1 for resilience.

Cheers!

Only thing I can think of, is to have music on a nas box hidden out of the way, and use an app on say an iPad (or equivalent Android pad) which means the music can be controlled easily, and it can be moved around easily by the staff. Then the nas can just stream music to an audio setup via it's own software. (Think you can buy wireless receivers to connect via USB port)

Hope that helps or gives some more food for thought at least. :)

You could consider the free radio automation software ZaraRadio. It can play through predefined or random playlists, play items at set times, etc etc.
