July Hardware Figures
Wii 425 k
Nintendo DS 405 k
PlayStation 2 222k
PlayStation Portable 214k
Xbox 360 170k
PlayStation 3 159k
Game Boy Advance 87k

So Wii sells out again (good times) and for the first time actually outsells the unoutsellable DS. Despite the PS3 $100 price drop it still comes in behind the PS2 and 360 (bad times). The 360 plods along without change with average July sales (meh times).

And people do love their Guitar Hero.

In a very MS centric US I think the PS3 is doing pretty well to be that close to the X360 (not of course forgetting the Elite is pushing sales up I would guess)

In the fact that that is by and large always their best territory for sales

well that is true but it doesn't make it out to be anti sony does it? the ps and ps2 were fantastically successful in the us. the only place i can think of thats really pro or anti anyone as a nation is japan which is obviously anti ms. i don't believe that the average american would buy a console because it's made by microsoft instead of a 'dodgy' japanese company.

Never quite understand why people take the NPD stats in such high regard, given that NPD doesn't even poll most of the brick and mortar chains IIRC they don't include sales from Walmart, Target, etc. It is after all a guesstimate derived from partial sales data from a few areas, much like how the TV viewing figures are done, Its probably pretty close, but its not the whole truth.

The US consumer in general seem to be more "leniant" with MS's Xbox problems more than Sony's ps ones it seems

Dont the sales in the UK suggest that we are about the same as the US in terms of 360 sales relative to the population?

Also Nintendo is outselling the 360 bigtime and with Sony's price drop you would expect it to at least match the 360, infact a lot of analysts were saying it would beat it.
