Jump on the conroe waggon or wait?

What happens when one of these beauties runs a singlecore application ?, which is what most software is.
A single 2.4 or 3.6Ghz Intel is naff in games compared to same class Intel.
E.g.
Prescot singlecore 3Ghz at 3.6Ghz vs Sempron 1.6Ghz at 2.5 Ghz = no contest -AMD is faster in games (I have tested this)
PD dualcore 3Hhz at 3.5Ghz vs X2 4400 2.2Ghz at 2.6Ghz = no contest in multi threaded AND single thread games (I have tested this e.g 3dmk05 scores are: Intel 7700, AMD 13500).

I love plaing Farcry with HDR and its just playable on my current AMD setup, which scores 7627 in 3dmk06 and something tells me that a conroa at 2.4 or 3.3Ghz will be a lot slower. I can see the above benchmarks though maintain more testing is needed.
Even a new game like GRAW runs faster on 1 core and even 1 graphics card, wtf !.

I think we need some real world tests in a few games before everyone jumps on the bandwagon and prey game developers code games to use multithreading.

What about the lower micron AMD’s out at Christmas ?.

I'm not an AMD fanboy; I've had my fair share of Intels, I will definitely go for the fastest. It’s just AMD have ruled the games market for so long and multithreading is in its infancy; which makes me sceptical of the Conroa.

Pity you never tested a Pentium M laptop CPU otherwise you wouldn't be posting this.;)

 :D i want E6600 NOW!!!!

Intel running 1GB (2x512MB), AMD running 2GB (4x512MB). Surely that means the AMD is running 2T?

So? The Conroe with a even more severely crippled memory setup (just look at the memory bandwidth bench) still manages to beat it! :D

If you really want something now, get a Yonah system capable of taking a Merom when released in the summer, Asus and Aopen boards you can buy today are running with Merom ES chips now, check the xtreme forums.

I chose an Asus N4L-VM DH because they're around £110

I notice now (after sobering up :D) that the Intel & AMD memory timings are 2T :D

All I can say is - got Cache? lol.

all i can say is conroe looks like a good little processor, one to definetly keep an eye on. im by far more interested by the absolute bottom of the range version since these are 99% of the time the best value for money, there the exact same processor just clocked lower, similar to 939 processors, i mean run my 3200+ almost FX57 speed, only 50Mhz off. im sick of this happening all the time though, don't count out AM2 for god sake, im seriously holding out for good DDR2 with tight timings like DDR has now, and watch those scores get much much much more competative, not forgetting the way K8 processors are utterly dependant on timings so much more than bandwidth. sure they make use of extra bandwidth as well but i think if you can get some slower clocked DDR2 CAS2.5 or something AM2 system would be even with these core duo systems if they both use the exact same memory, graphics cards, hard disks simply because athlons are very very fast if given the right hardware to back them up. another note is when AMD switch to 65nm later this year i think (don't quote on that cause im not sure of exact time there meant to be doing that) there AM2 chips will be able to clock much higher and the fight between conroe and AM2 will be officially on, but for now its a totally unfair comparison, give the AM2 CAS2 DDR2 and watch it wipe the floor with conroe :D
