So I’ve got another upgrade bug :(

Recently bought the Asus ROG Gsync monitor and want to unlock it’s full potential and for that I want a second 780. However I have an issue as I'm running the Asus ROG Impact (Mini ITX) which only has a single PCI slot.

Now, whilst I could buy a new Z97 mobo, case and PSU I might make the jump to the X99 platform. I've always wanted to run the X series just never had the money.

What are the opinions of the below spec?

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus X99-Deluxe Intel X99 (Socket 2011) DDR4 ATX Motherboard £299.99
1 x Intel 5820K 3.30GHz (Haswell-E) Socket LGA2011-V3 Processor - Retail (BX80648I75820K) £289.99
1 x KFA2 GeForce GTX 780 3072MB PCI-Express Graphics Card - Retail (78XNH5DN9IST) £215.99
1 x Crucial 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-17000C16 2133MHz Quad Channel Kit (CT4K4G4DFS8213) £146.99
1 x SuperFlower Leadex GOLD 1000W Fully Modular "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £119.99
1 x Corsair Carbide 540 High Airflow ATX Cube Case - Black (CC-9011030-WW) £98.95
Total : £1,186.00 (includes shipping : £11.75).

I think its easier to go for the bigger ATX Z97 board instead.

This BK edition has a 5year warranty and a upgrade within 3 years if you register it - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18631511

Also an 850W PSU will run that easily.

Which CPU do you have? if it is a i7 4790K then keep it as it runs at a faster speed and still has 8 threads.

Or lets assume you do go for X99 and no one can stop you doing so,

There are CPU+board bundles - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=701&catid=6&subid=2858

And I have the same RAM for sale in the MM (if you have access) at a cheaper price.

Yeah I'm sitting on the fence at the moment, I guess going from a 4790K to Haswell-E is kinda pointless. Think it's the case of new shinys!

The only thing that's annoying is that I have a MSI 780 gaming edition at the moment and this other 780 will look a bit odd

With the offer of being able to get a board upgrade in the future then the Z97 option is guaranteed to be a bit more "future proof".

Nothing has been announced about X99, whether there will be another range of CPUs etc, no one knows.

Yeah that makes sense. I've gone for the Z97 option, just wish I hadn't of sold my 750d and Z87 mobo at the beginning of the year!

or sell the 780 and get a nice new 980 seen as your not spending loads on a x99 system. unless the 980 won't play 4k res games.

So a nice package arrived today, new toys! No Haribo though, was very disappointed :(

Love the Air 540, fantastic case, nice having all the cables hidden anyway and it's nice having room to work again (I love Mini ITX but wow it's a squeeze in a 250D!).
The mobo also ships with the F3 BIOS, thought I hadn't mounted my cooler proper until I noticed it was pumping 1.44V through the CPU =/
Just reinstalling Windows as it really didn't like the chipset change, thanks for your help!
