Ive finally decided im gonna do it, im gonna order the vista premuim 64mb oem edition. Ive got some questions:

1.Ive got 2 hard drives 1 with my OS on and the other with games, i want to competly wipe them both so there like new. Where do i do that does vista installation ask me, like it does in the xp installation?

2. What components require vista drivers

3.in the vista installation does it find you all the drivers you need eg motherboard, soundcard, graphics card etc

its almost identical to the XP setup routine (for the user) except its a windows based gui instead of that blue one

during setup you can resize partitions now too (you'll be able to wipe both your drives)

before installing, i'd download the vista drivers for your components from their websites, but windows update has a lot of drivers on it now for various hardware

also now in the setup sequence, you can put SATA/RAID drivers onto a cd or usb stick instead of being forced to integrate them or use a floppy drive

-the majority of hardware is dectected and just 'works', my creative sound cards have not been though, but a quick download from the creative site sorts that

1. ive got nothing to dl the drivers onto beforehand is that problem, cant i just install them after the installation.

2. ive checked the abit site for drivers and all they got is one for Raid which i dont know what thats for?

3. will i need to do a bios update, and is there a program that does it for you cause the floppy drive way seems complicated :p

4.do i even need a bios update?

I think it would be easier if you tell me what drivers i need :)

tell us what hardware (graphics, soundcard, motherboard, tvcard?, network card?-if not onboard) you have

don't you have a usbkey or any cd/dvdrw's lying around for the drivers (probably isn't essential, but still)

how do you connect to the internet, router or modem?

-abit have a program called 'flashmenu' you can update your bios using that (searches for updates for you)

Cheers for the drivers

ive dl them all and burned them onto a cd (yep i found a cd rw) so now im just waiting till vista premium 64mb arrives :)
Out of interest why did i need the intel chipset driver, whats it for?

Also ive ordered OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2 should that make a nice difference in running vista :)

Sorry to jump the thread!...But I might aswell ask :p

Is there any point in me Installing Vista Ultimate with the following specs..also is it the "right" time..or shall I stick with XP

Cheers.

Amd 64 3000+ (2.2ghz)
1gb Crucial ram
Nvidia 7600gt
60gb Seagate hard drive (Dont need huge amounts anyways)

Never had that problem myself. And i just reinstalled yesterday . . . :) . Must be with certain boards according to the linky.

It arrived today :)

Ive installed it with ease along with all the drivers and it looks great. Ive only been able to play around with it for about half hour but it feels so good and looks really stylish, and very practical.
I checked out my score index, which i got 5.2, i have no idea if thats good or not, but my lowest score came from my cpu?
In all the excitement i installed COH to test out the dx10 feature and i forgot i dont have a dx10 card :p which btw i noticed no slowdown.

Well im off to work then ill try out some more stuff along with a nice game of chess :D
