I have an external Dolby AMP that I push sound to via optical SPDIF.

I have fixed this in the past but I cant for the life of me remember what it was.

When I force SPDIF output in VLC or any media player to get full Multi-Channel output the sound jumps, very badly.

I'm not all that saavy with the terms but I think I need to force SPDIF pass-through so that my AMP decodes it, and the PC does not try to, does this sound about right?

Going to try http://ac3filter.net/project/11/releases tonight but I would really like to know the technicalities behind this.

If you are using VLC player believe that you need to look at the advanced audio options and choose Wave32 output - apologies if this not 100% accurate description but not at home to check. You should now have perfect sound in VLC via spdif
