No doubt some of you will have been called up for service before so could you advise on what the deal is regarding a dress code? As I understand it, there is likely to be hours and hours of waiting around every day should I be selected so would rather not be cocooned inside a suit.

Would trousers and shirt be OK or are there going to be others there just wearing jeans and a tshirt so I shouldn't even be worrying?

Just go smart casual.

Here's a tip. If you want to be 'selected' you will have a higher chance depending on how available you are. That's really about the only criterion.

I went in casual clothes, and it seemed everyone else did as well - as long as you don't look like a hobo you'll be OK :)

Every time I have given evidence at Crown Court, the jury have been a mix of smart casual and some wearing jeans.

I personally would go smart casual but there is no dress code as such.

I wore jeans and a t-shirt most days, ended up being elected as foreman despite being the youngest and scruffiest looking there.

As Lysander has said, smart casual will be spot on. When I was on jury duty there were a few of the others in ripped jeans and torn Reebok classics etc so I wouldn't worry to much.

You are meant to be representative of the normal population, so considering you are a member of the normal population, it makes sense to dress how you normally would, yes some people will dress more formally, but my experience was that this tailed off as the week progressed and by the end of each week more people were just wearing what they normally would than had dressed for it

Dress up like a ghost by wearing a white sheet with eyeholes cut in it.

Though if the Defendant is black, that's probably not the best idea.

Thanks everyone, reckon I'll just dress casual-ish then.

Do quite like the chicken suit/executioners mask though. Like to see them prove that wasn't how I dress every day and thus representative of the normal population:D

Now I just hope the defendant is a hot female who I end up sleeping with, like in peep show!

Jeans, trainers etc. Same way i would dress if i was going out to town for the day or something.

I hated it, i was there for the duration doing nothing.

On the first day, I rocked up in my suit. There were 3 of us in suits, the rest of them were just normal clothes.
After that, I ditched the jacket and just wore smart trousers, smart shoes, a shirt and a nice jumper.

We sat about for 4 days watching Jeremy Kyle...
Total waste of time.

That must have been a bit distressing, going along for jury service and instead just having your IQ lowered. :p

Generally as with most people I'd think something reasonably smart would be a good idea but as long as you aren't wearing something too outlandish it shouldn't be a problem. I'd go with something reasonably smart partly as a nod of respect to the institution of our judicial system but it's not necessary.
