I've got another geil kit for my pc, making me have 4 gb total.
I boot pc up: 2096 mb in bios.

So I goto bios settings and enable memory remapping, reboot, 4096mb showed okay, nicceeee :).

But in xp : just 2gb, 2096 mb, anybody know how to enable PAE?
I've had 3.25 gb on this xp install before, just on a diff mainboard, but this exact windows...

Vista x64 I'll test in a sec, just rebooting.

EDIT: Tis fine in vista x64

Oh, I just noticed the wrong thread, please move to either windows or memory ( I dunno wich one's better lol, but not mainboards anyhows ).

Hey snowdog, enabling PAE (Physical Address Extension) doesn't really apply to you.

So I am afraid that you are limited to just under 3GB with Windows XP 32-bit. :)

Help, I can't get PAE to enable, I've followed all the instructions correctly but it refuses to enable it :

Stubborn OS :(.

Just under 3 gb? It didn't give me 1 mb more than when I had 2gb, that's the problem, I want pae to get 3 ish GB, not exactly 2.

Sorry i didn't read your opening post correctly. How much RAM is seen by Windows XP when you have just 3GB installed into the system. :)

I haven't tried yet, would it make a difference if I used 3x1 gb instead of 4x1 GB?

But renember I do want to keep 4gb in Vista, where it works fine as 4gb.

Any idea what I've done wrong btw and why it doesn't enable PAE as I've added it into the boot.ini?

Any idea's how to let windows use a gig extra then?

If the system that you are talking about is in your signature, have you tried simply resetting the BIOS back to the default settings and running everything at stock and then enable the memory re-mapping option again?

I must admit, the above does sound a little bit silly since the overclock shouldn't affect the amount of memory that is reported in Windows. However, electrical equipment can be a bit annoying sometimes. :p:)

Will do very soon, upgrading to an E6600 in a bit ( borrowing from dad) or even a q6600 (perhaps buying myself) so will have change to defaults anyways.

Hope the stuff will be fine then, but I won't be THAT bothered I guess, I got the 4gb mainly for Vista, as will be using that more often for dx10, as I got an 8800GT ( but it's borked, got a thread about it, nvm though) wich means I'll care less for the vista performance loss.
I mean now with my 6800GS, I avoid vista because even the 3-5 % of fps lost in vista is noticable, because I'm alrdy @ approx 20-25 fps in a lot of games.
